I came face to face with this magnificent beast during a Sunday walk in Tentsmuir Forest in Fife. As I broke out from the trees towards the beach I loved the scene in front of me! This dramatic view of Dundee with the River Tay in the middle distance was an ideal subject for me to paint. The Highland Cow which dominates the picture was painted loosely with big broad brush strokes. The contrast with the cool colours of the background and the warmer tones in the foreground helps to create an interesting perspective.
