I think this unusual view of the rail bridge stretching into the middle distance as it heads over to Fife gives this painting a sense of depth. The contrast between the dark tones of the bridge, the lightness of the River Tay and the colourful tenement buildings endows the picture with a sense of peacefulness and tranquillity. I was also charmed with the washing hanging out in the backies.
